A run in the blistering cold may sound terrible, but it's not. It's great. Don't even get it twisted.
Because running makes everything better.
Just kidding. It's the friends who are willing to get out there in the cold and run with you who make everything better. They even make 20 degree F temps doable.
Today's run:
Distance - 13.5
Time - 1:51
I bonked pretty hard at mile 10. I needed some fuel. Unfortunately for me, my Clif bar was frozen!! I managed to crack it into two pieces and then thaw it out with the warmth from my hand. The lesson I've learned: I need to put one of those hand warmer things in my pocket with my food?
Also, I need to make plans for when to eat during longer runs. I had issues during the Manhattan Half Marathon and again today. I need to be especially diligent because these colder temps tend to suppress my appetite for food and water. But I can dehydrate and cramp up in any weather, so I've gotta be careful.
I'm on the search for some good running tunes. I'm hoping you guys can help me out! I'll get the ball rolling with this one:
That's Marina and the Diamonds - Prima Donna.
What songs get you moving? I'm in desperate need of a playlist update. I mean, I'm still jamming to Carly Rae Jepsen over here. Soooo 2012.

Do you have Pandora on your phone (if you run with your phone)? I like to use Pandora because I don't know what song is coming next. And, what can beat a good Kesha or LMFAO mix on a run, right?
ReplyDeleteYes! I love Pandora! But during races I like to have music on my phone because I don't like to depend on sketchy satellites. :)
DeleteAwesome run!! And I don't really listen to music while I run but lately macklemore and a few of the other alternative fast ish music has been intriguing me. Although I must say, Call me Maybe is still my favorite song and I will never stop jamming to it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's true that Call Me Maybe is still pretty great. I like to dance to it a little while I run. I look CRAZY on the treadmill. Haha
DeleteGreat run!! Agreed on the food thing, I did 13.1 on Sunday and didn't fuel or drink at all and felt totally fine, I was shocked by how not hungry I was. When it comes to tunes... I am kind of obsessed with country right now... Some tops picks include: Merry Go 'Round - Kacey Musgraves, Two Black Cadillacs - Carrie Underwood, Blown Away - Carrie Underwood, Better Dig Two - The Band Perry. IF you listen to these you will notice they are not super happy songs but more so have a great background beat and are of a slightly revenge nature. Let's my inner Emily Thorne (revenge - great show) out!
ReplyDeleteBeing a Texan, I have log loved country music. I find that it makes me CRY when I run because, as you point out, many country songs are not happy at all.
DeleteThat's actually super catchy!! I love the beat.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm so not of any help here, I still jam out to 2010 songs. Nothing wrong with a little ol Carly though!
I still jamming to Carly Rae Jepson too. Whoops.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if I am any help with music, but amazing job on getting out there in the cold.
