Keith and I pounded the pavement with Princeton Intervals again tonight. This weekly gathering is quickly becoming one of my favorite activities. Admittedly, it is difficult to get out of the apartment during these cold weather days, but once I'm running with the group I always feel on top of the world. What a wonderful bunch of people.
Tonight's workout was tough:
12 x 1/3 mile with 90 second rest in between
My fastest was 2:03 and slowest was 2:11. That's pretty speedy for me! I was huffing and puffing and felt like quitting about half way through every repeat, but I managed to tough it out and had an amazing workout.
When we got home we had a big box waiting at our door. I tore into it immediately--like a normal person--and then Oohed and Aahed over the goodies inside.
It's a Valentine's Day package from my mom!
When I was a kid, my mom would wake me and my brother up on Valentine's Day and take us into the kitchen to find tons of goodies laid out on the table for our enjoyment. We would eat sweets for breakfast and fawn over our teddy bears and cards and then rush to get ready for school. My mom always made the most of every little holiday. So much fun!
This is definitely a tradition I want to continue with my kids one day. It may be cheesy to show such an outpouring of love and affection on a totally arbitrarily designated day, but I think if everyone is participating anyway, then I want my loved ones to feel my love on that day too and not have to wonder.
Plus, I have the great luck of having a wonderful mother-in-law who has affection for Valentine's Day too. She gave me some beautiful pink yarn to use for my knitting projects. I asked Keith if he would like matching hats, but he isn't game.
Do you have any Valentine's Day traditions that make your heart sing?
Keith cooked up some yummy Mahi Mahi tacos for us tonight. I made the pico de gallo and trimmed the beans--and then I sat like a lump on the couch until Keith rang the dinner bell. He did goooood.
Super easy to make. Just pan-sear the Mahi and season with some salt, pepper, and maybe some pepper flakes if you are feeling spicy. Smear some guacamole on a flour tortilla, toss on your fish and some pico, and you are ready to rock and roll.
Speaking of rock and roll... Have any of you run a race in the Rock 'n' Roll series? I'm interested in maybe doing the one in Philly in September, but the price tags on these races is a little steep. So what's the word? Is it worth it?
Last thing: My running buddy, Meg, has started her very own blog! Run on over to Shoe Stories to get your fill of fast miles and all things running shoes-related.

That yarn is beautiful- and that is coming from the least artsy woman in the US. But, I do find yarn beautiful. Weird, right?
ReplyDeleteYour tacos look delicious :). My sister in law's nickname is Mahi, so I always think of her when I read mahi mahi ;)
What a cute nickname! I have to say, I'm normally not a big fan of mahi mahi, but I think it's just because I don't like big steak-sized portions of it. This was perfect for me though.
DeleteAw, thanks for the shout-out! I'm sooooo excited that PI is one of your favorite parts of the week - mine too! :)
ReplyDeleteIf only the weather would warm up so I wouldn't be so averse to going outside!
Delete...but it is warm. We went over this. ;)
DeleteIt's funny, I was just thinking about the Rock'n'Roll series the other day because they have an ad in Runner's World. I see that they added a race to Cleveland, so I am very tempted to sign up for that instead of an even more local fall marathon... Very tempting. I have heard they are a good time, and Cleveland does have the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.
ReplyDeleteOooooh! I hope they do something special relating to the Hall of Fame! Wouldn't that be cool?!
DeleteI love getting packages from my mom! It always makes me so happy. She's sending one today so hopefully it has some V-day goodies in it :)
ReplyDeleteI love getting packages from my mom no matter what. Strike that, I just love getting packages. But it is pretty cool that my mom keeps this crazy tradition alive. I hope you get some goodies, too!
DeleteGotta love care packages!! My parents always gave us the little cheesy heart box of chocolates. I always loved exchanging cards though in class with the cute little boxes we all made. But I have not tried the RnR though I see they're in like a million places. I'm not a huge rock girl so I've never been bitten by that bug ;)
ReplyDeleteParents are the best. I haven't gotten any care packages in a while from them, so sad. This post inspired me to email them though and I let them know I enjoy signs of love and affection via dark chocolate in the mail. SUCCESS.
ReplyDeleteMy first Rock&Roll race was my marathon in December. I thought it was well organized and fun. They are pretty expensive though. They are having a deal today for $13 off registration (Promo code is LUCKY13)!
ReplyDeleteYour mom is so cute, what an adorable package! MY mom would wake my sister and I up early to have our goodies when we were younger too!! I am looking at the Rock and Roll half marathon in Portland in May!! If it all works out I will let you know how it goes!!
