This morning at 8:30am, Meg and I headed out to Washington Crossing for the week's long run. Where is Washington Crossing?
It's about a 20 minute drive. And why is it called Washington Crossing?
Because it's the spot where George Washington famously crossed the Delaware during the Revolutionary War. Read up on your history here.
This run was a doozy. All ups and down and even a mountain, not to mention the ice-covered trails. Not gonna lie: I had a damn good time.
Distance - 10 miles
Time - 1:30:00
And when I say I had a good time, what I really mean is that this run whooped my ass. I was chanting my mantra to myself. This is not bigger than me; I am bigger than this. But even so, every uphill was a fight.
Meg has convinced me to run a relay with her in August. It didn't take much convincing because, well, I'm sort of obsessed with the idea of running a team relay race. I have dreams of running Hood to Coast with Nuun. Awesome race, awesome girls... what's not to love?
Anyway, this relay race in August is just a tad more local. It's the New Jersey River to Sea, a 91 mile relay race run by teams of seven people who take 2 legs each. We in the process of putting together our little team so we can register soon, and I'm excited.
If any of you have any great ideas for a team name, share the goods!
Have you ever run a relay race? I ran relays in high school track, but an endurance relay is a whole different story!

I'm realizing how much better it is to go somewhere else for a run. It makes it so much more pleasant than doing the same boring loops! I'm glad you had a good time even though it was hard :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice breaking out of the everyday norm and running in new places. I like to look at things when I run, so running around the neighborhood gets old fast. Especially when the place is so steeped in American History, like the place where Washington crossed the freaking Delaware.
ReplyDeleteBut I ran 4x4s in HS with the occasional hurdle shuttle relay. They were fun, and I loved recieving the baton and everything that goes with it, but it's hard when you can only control a portion of the race
oooo what a run..and i am writing down your mantra on a piece of paper - I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteNever run a relay..I loooove reading bloggers recap it though. Seems so, so fun!
So jealous! If someone asked me to run a relay, even if it was 50 miles, I would jump all over it! I love the idea of being on a team! You are going to have a blast.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great run!
ReplyDeleteWe are trying to put together a team as well! I am dying to do relays. Hood to Coast = bucket list.
I've never run a relay, but I hope to do one sometime soon. I gotta convince some other runners to do it with me!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job getting through your long run. I love your mantra!!
My first relay is in june, and i am very excited! I wish i had more historic landmarks to run through, maybe i would be more inspired?? ;)
ReplyDeleteWoohoo on the run! I cannot believe you tackled that for 10 miles! I did about 9 miles yesterday on a fairly straight stretch and was tired afterwards so good for you! I have never done a relay, but I definitely want to :)
ReplyDeleteYour run sounds beastly and that race sounds awesome. You should let me know if you are still hunting for more team members (meganfoodandfitness@gmail.com)! I've never done a relay but it sounds like it would be pretty sweet and an excuse for a mini road trip!
